How will I know for sure that the electricity I have purchased as produced with renewable energy sources really is produced in that way?

How will I know for sure that the electricity I have purchased as produced with renewable energy sources really is produced in that way?

We have authenticated all electricity produced with renewable energy sources and sold to households and small companies with official guarantees of origin. In Finland, the guarantee of origin system is maintained by the transmission system operator Fingrid Oy, which is monitored by the Finnish Energy Authority.

Energy companies are obligated to report the amount of electricity produced into the network by different production methods, and, on the basis of this, the origin of the electricity can be determined.

The electricity providers then purchase guarantees of origin to the extent that they have sold electricity produced with renewable energy sources. This way it can be ensured that the sold electricity has been produced with renewable energy sources and that renewable energy is only sold to the extent that it has been produced into the electricity network.

What kinds of energy sources are used to produce the electricity and/or district heating that I have purchased?

What kinds of energy sources are used to produce the electricity and/or district heating that I have purchased?

The origin of the electricity you have purchased depends on the electricity product you have chosen. Of the products sold to private customers and small companies, the majority are produced with renewable energy sources. The Lähisähkö electricity is produced with either timber, the water of the Tammerkoski rapids, or wind. The HyötyEnergia electricity is produced with mixed waste, and the rest of the products are produced with hydropower. Large companies can purchase electricity produced with the energy sources of their choosing. Tampereen Sähkölaitos does not possess nuclear power shares of nuclear power plants.

When it comes to district heating, the forms of production vary more between the different energy sources. We are increasingly moving towards the use of renewable energy sources. At the moment, approximately half of the heating energy is produced with timber and half with mainly peat and natural gas.
